About This Event
The VSGA Junior Stroke Play Championship is Virginia's premier state-level stroke play competition for male junior golfers, now in its 74th year. Competing here means testing your game against the best juniors in the state over three rounds at a high-caliber course. A strong finish builds your Virginia junior golf resume and puts you on the radar of coaches and selectors who follow state association results.
What Advancing Means
Winning this championship earns an automatic exemption into the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, one of the most competitive USGA events on the junior calendar. Beyond the exemption, a Virginia state title carries real weight in college recruiting conversations and signals a player can perform under multi-round, stroke play pressure.
Coach's Take
This is one of the most important events on the Virginia junior calendar — the USGA exemption alone makes it worth building your summer schedule around, and three rounds of stroke play at this level will tell you exactly where your game stands heading into the fall recruiting season.
About State Golf
State Golf offers competitive junior golf events. Check their tour page for full schedule and eligibility details.
Scheduled in early July, this event lands right in the heart of the summer competitive season, when college coaches are actively evaluating junior talent and USGA qualifying windows are open. While it does not carry AJGA points, a state championship title complements a summer schedule built around USGA and AJGA events and adds meaningful association-level credibility.
